On 9 July 2013 my second child had just come into the world and I was broke. At that time, I lived in a small sleepy town in Asia and had no work or income to support my family. My mother’s advice as always proved to be precious. She had been encouraging me : "You are good at Chi Kung and you know The 18 Lohan Hands Chi Kung exercises at a very high level; why not make an honest living teaching Chi Kung to help people suffering from disease & illness? Help them to overcome pain, anxiety and help them to gain back their health? This is wonderful work my son," my mother told me.

Greatly emboldened by my mother’s words, around the same time I received an offer from one of my Sifu's (Master) oldest students who invited me to join his Chi Kung Centre as a teacher. I decided to take his offer and after a month, I travelled down to Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia to start my Chi Kung teaching journey. I was so worried about how to start teaching and admittedly I was somewhat nervous entering my first class.

Luckily, my father is a Shaolin master and I had been practicing these wonderful arts consistently for over 20 years by that point. Those years of practice from a young age helped me to build an excellent understanding of each of the Chi Kung forms and how to use them based on each individual student's health condition. After extensive travels while learning from my own Sifu (Master) and father, I also gained immense amounts of insight into how to structure and teach Chi Kung classes.

Today I am very lucky to be able to share this wonderful art with people all over the world and we have started our new journey co-operating with my Sifu (Master)'s overseas students to continue his legacy and his wish to help as many people as possible to improve their lives with good health, vitality, happiness and prosperity. # Practicing Chi Kung changed my life and those around me, after battling with debilitating chronic inflammatory conditions from childhood with all the associated complications. I initially chose this path due to the miraculous recovery I experienced from a lower spine injury after practicing Chi Kung, and I am thrilled with the results once again. Despite our classes being scheduled for an hour, Sifu often extended our sessions, ensuring that I thoroughly understood and remembered each movement, almost as if it was being infused into my muscle memory. The simplicity of the movements should not be underestimated. They do not require belief—just practice—and the results are genuinely impressive. The practice itself has been incredibly relaxing, and I have noticed significant improvements in my well-being. For over 13 years, I have struggled with incontinence since the birth of my daughter. Despite trying various methods to strengthen my pelvic floor, nothing seemed to work, and the issue worsened with age. When I shared this with Sifu, he encouraged me to continue the practice, and to my pleasant surprise, just three weeks after the course, I found that my bladder control had improved dramatically. The 18 Lohan Hands is the name given to a unique set of bodily movements synchronized with the breath which were first taught by the great Bodhidharma at the Shaolin Temple in China. “Hands” is a colloquial translation from the classical Chinese, which signifies gentle arm movements and there are 18 of them. Bodhidharma’s genius was in the way he utilized these simple but profound movement patterns to generate flow in different areas of the body.

​

This might sound strange to people who view the body mechanistically and all the organs as almost separate cogs in a container. Chi Kung and traditional Chinese medicine generally, conceptualizes the body and mind as a unified whole and all limbs and organs, internal and external – as interdependent and holistic.

​

That’s why a certain posture or arm movement aligned with gentle breathing can massage a certain organ or take the pressure away from another while opening the body for increased blood and energy flow. That is why Bodhidharma taught these exercises to the Shaolin monks – so they could take control of their health and by extension, themselves and their lives.
